Compressed Video
These courses allow students to take advantage of courses only offered at
other community colleges via our compressed video classroom. These courses
are identified in the Schedule with a section number beginning with "C".
Course Procedures
Compressed video technology allows students at different locations throughout
the Commonwealth of Virginia to participate in a classroom environment
together. Students and instructors can communicate via a two-way audio/video
system. Students are able to see and hear the instructor at all sites, and
the instructor is able to see and hear students.
Compressed video courses are often supported by web based activities. Courses
materials may also be mailed or faxed. Outside of class, students may
communicate with instructors by e-mail or phone.
Print-Based
All instruction is print-based with students required to complete tests and
exams on campus. These courses are identified in the Schedule with a section
number beginning with "P".
Print-Based Course Procedures
Print based courses are special distance learning courses taught primarily
through the use of print based materials, such as textbooks and instructor
authored content. In some of the courses there are media components, usually
audio or videotapes. In other courses, some materials and activities are web
based. For on-campus students all media components may be viewed in the
Library (Bedford Learning Resources Center). Distance students may be
allowed to check-out media materials for the duration of the semester.
Course instructors have prepared course information packets for enrolled
students. These packets include information regarding course requirements,
test dates, assignment schedules and other pertinent information related to
the structure of the course. Students may mail, FAX, or turn in assignments
to the Learning Lab. Students may also be required to come to the Learning
Lab to take tests. All completed assignments and tests will be forwarded to
the instructor for grading. You may call 434.832.7827 or e-mail the
Student Success Center
(for testing) or the instructor for more information on these courses.
Hybrid
Hybrid courses blend face-to-face instruction with online instruction and
activities often resulting in a reduced number of scheduled meeting times.
Internet access is required since much of the course material, activities
and interaction is accomplished using a learning management called Blackboard.
Hybrid courses may involve different forms of technology delivery (compressed
video, Elluminate, face-to-face instruction, online) and specific requirements
for students are listed in the footnotes for each course.
Web
All instruction is web-based. Students interested in these courses must be
self-motivated and have basic computer skills. These courses are identified
in the Schedule with a section number beginning with "W". Please take our
free Web Ready course or the
Web Ready quiz before taking one of these
courses. Web Ready is designed as an example of a web course. It is not
graded. All web courses at CVCC are conducted in Blackboard.
Important: Please review our Technical Requirements for Web Courses.
