Personal Leave - 9-Month Faculty
Nine-month faculty not enrolled in the Virginia Sickness and Disability
Program (VSDP) earn 3 days of personal leave at the beginning of each
academic year. Leave must be taken in increments of 4 hours.
For example, an absence of two hours will be charged as 4 hours of
leave. Personal leave may be taken at the faculty member's
discretion, provided satisfactory prior arrangements have been made with
the faculty member's division dean. Unused personal leave is
converted to sick leave accrual on at the end of the summer term
following the academic year for which it was granted. The Personal
Leave Policy does not apply to VSDP participants.
Sick Leave
Nine-month faculty who are not members of the VSDP accrue sick leave at
the rate of 36 hours per academic semester, awarded on the first day of
each semester. The smallest unit of leave that can be used is
one-half day (4 hours).
Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP)
Nine-month faculty members who are members of the Virginia Retirement
System may choose to enroll in VSDP. Under the program employees
are provided with sick leave and family and personal leave each
calendar year.

personal leave according to full-time state service:
