When is the Library open?

When classes are in session, the Library hours are as follows:
Days Fall / Spring Summer
Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Saturday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Closed
Sunday Closed Closed

When classes are not in session, these hours may vary, but are usually as follows:

Where is the library?! I went there and it has moved!

Beginning in spring semester 2008, the CVCC Library as well as the entire Bedford Hall will undergo renovation. The Library is temporarily located in Room 2506 in Amherst Hall. Library staff offices are located next door in Room 2504.

How will the library renovation affect library services?

During renovation, Library staff will continue to provide many of its services, including: checking books in and out; assisting with information requests; public computers; reserves; magazines and newspapers; a limited number of popular books, DVDs, and new books on display; and processing student IDs. Where are all the books? I don’t see them at the temporary location.

During renovation, most books and other library material are in storage. The Library has implemented a book retrieval service, LIBRARY EXPRESS. Items requested will be retrieved by Library staff and delivered to the Public Service Desk for pickup. For more information about LIBRARY EXPRESS, click here.

How do I get my Student ID/Library Card?

When school is in session, registered students may come to the Library to have their card made. It serves as both student ID and library card, and a picture of the student is taken. The first card is free; the replacement charge for lost cards is $3.00.

How do I find out if the Library has a particular book?

You may search the Online Library Catalog to see if it is in the Library’s holdings. To access the Online Library Catalog, click here. For information on how to use the Online Library Catalog, click here and select the QuickStart Guide for Using the Online Library Catalog.

How long may I keep a book that I’ve checked out?

Books checked out by students circulate for a period of four weeks.

What is the overdue fine for returning materials late? What is the charge for lost materials?

The Library does not charge fines for materials returned late. However, a hold is put on the records of students with overdue materials. For lost library materials, the charge is $50 per item. Students must have a clear library record before being able to register for classes.

Can I access library resources from home?

Yes. Go to the CVCC Library Information Reference Page (click here). This page lists a variety of excellent electronic library resources available to students and faculty. When accessing an electronic database from off-campus, you will be directed to the “MY VCCS” page. Simply enter your “MY VCCS” login and password.

Does the Library have computers available for public use?

Yes, the Library has computers available for students and the general public on a first-come, first served basis. Internet access and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., are on these computers.

May I use my laptop in the Library? May I hook it up to the Internet?

Yes, the Library has a wireless network and a number of electrical outlets that you may use.

I have a file on a floppy disk/jump drive. Can I use it on Library computers?

Yes!! If you have created a file on another computer and saved it on a floppy or jump, you can use it on library computers, if it is saved in an application that is loaded on the Library computers (i.e Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint, etc.). For jump drives, merely plug the drive into one of the ports on the left side of the computer monitor.

Can I print out computer documents on the Library printer?

Yes, the first five pages are free and then it is 5 cents per page.

How do I find my student e-mail address?

Do you have a photocopier?

Yes, there is a self-service photocopier in the Library. The charge is 10 cents per page.

Do you have a scanner available for students?

Yes, we have one attached to one of our computers.

Do you sell floppy disks?

No, you must provide your own floppy disks. They may be purchased in the Bookstore.

Do you offer fax service?

We do not offer fax service in the Library.

Do you have color printers?

We do not at present have color printers in the Library.
