CVCC Learning Resource Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to be held July 15

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/7/8/09 – A ribbon cutting ceremony for Central Virginia Community College’s newly renovated Bedford Learning Resource Center will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 15. Senator Steve Newman and Mr. Martin Giudice, chair of the CVCC Local Advisory Board, will speak at the ceremony. Dr. Darrel Staat, president of CVCC, will offer greetings and remarks.

The complete renovation of the CVCC library building was made possible by a $4.2 million General  Assembly appropriation in 2005. This is the first and only update of the facility since its construction in 1975. Features of the new learning resource center include a coffee shop and student lounge; glass-fronted group study rooms; the CVCC Success Center; Distance Learning Center and the Center for Advanced Engineering and Research’s Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Center.

A total of 29,000 square feet was renovated by Blair Construction of Gretna, Virginia. The architect for the project was Clark and Nexsen, a firm based in Norfolk, Virginia.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremonies, there will be a tour of the new facility and refreshments will be provided. The public is invited.
