This information is being provided to you as a reminder of the rules and regulations of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS).
Reporting to CVCC: Students should report to their school within 30
days of the date that appears on the SEVIS I-20 form to register for courses
or to validate their intended participation. Failure to do so may result in
serious consequences.
Passport: Your passport must be valid at all times.
Form I-20: you must have a valid, non-expired Form I-20 at all times
to maintain your student status with CIS.
Change of Address: You must notify the Admissions and Records office
immediately of any change in your living arrangements. CVCC must have in
SEVIS at all times a current address and phone number for you.
Full-Time Enrollment: You must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit
hours each fall and spring semester. You may NOT drop below 12 credits at
any time during the semester without permission IN ADVANCE from the
International Student advisor for any reason. Failure to maintain a full
academic load throughout the semester will cause you to fall out of status.
Distance learning classes: One only distance learning class may be
counted toward your full time course load during the fall and/or spring
semesters.
Working: Students in F-1 status at CVCC are not permitted to work
either on campus or off campus.
Insurance: You must maintain major medical insurance coverage while
a student at CVCC. This coverage should include provision for medical
evacuation and repatriation in the event of death. Your coverage must cover
one calendar year at all times.
Travel Outside the US: If you leave the US for a temporary absence,
be sure to have the DSO check your I-20 to be sure there is a current
signature on the 3rd page. You will always need a valid Student (F-1) Visa
to re-enter the United States.
American Laws: Be aware that if you get into trouble with law
enforcement agencies that you do not have protected status and will be
subject to all laws of the state of Virginia as well as federal law.
CVCC is required by law to notify US CIS when a student has failed to
maintain status, has violated immigration laws in any way, has changed
status, or is no longer attending school. CVCC may refuse admission to
students who have not met US CIS requirements for F-1 status.
