Coordinator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services

Disability Services invites applications for a Coordinator of Deaf and Hard of
Hearing Services position responsible for coordination and provision of sign
language interpreting services for hearing-impaired students in classes and for
university events/activities/employees.
The coordinator will provide interpreting and direct services to ensure
communication access for students who are deaf and hard of hearing including
scheduling services, coordinating billing for staff and visitor interpreting
services, and providing training. In addition, this position will be responsible
for the intake and registration of all current and prospective students who are
deaf or hard of hearing. Activities include, review of medical documentation to
determine qualification, development of academic accommodations and writing case
notes.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, is
required; a master's degree is preferred. National certification and
demonstrated experience working in a university setting are preferred.
Experience working in graduate programs and/or a legal setting is desirable.
American Sign Language and transliteration proficiency is required. Ability to
have a flexible work schedule and work effectively in a culturally diverse
environment is required. Schedule is based on a 40-hour work week but actual
interpreting schedule is determined by the needs of the students.
