Placement Tests
Compass/Asset Testing
To be a successful student, you must have college level skills in reading, writing, and basic math.
To determine whether you have these college level skills, CVCC administers course placement tests to all students planning to enroll in English or math.
CVCC offers placement testing at the main campus in Lynchburg and at all of our outreach centers using a computerized test called COMPASS (untimed testing). No appointment is necessary for COMPASS testing.
Every spring, CVCC counselors offer a paper and pencil version of the placement test at area high schools called the ASSET (timed tests). Both tests evaluate the same skills in reading, writing, and math. Check with your guidance counselor for information about when CVCC will be testing in your high school.
CVCC complies with the requirements of the American Disabilities Act. CVCC is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Institution.
